Laura Hamilton, 40, had some bad news for people looking to buy property in Spain during a recent episode of the relocation show.
A place in the sun presenter Laura Hamilton has warned Britons not to buy property in Spain.
Spain, once a hotspot for cheap property under glorious sunshine, may not offer the goods it once did.
Laura, 40, was tasked with helping Jennie find a holiday home on the Costa del Sol with a budget of £85,000.
Unfortunately for Jennie, Laura had some bad news.
Laura said: “I have to do a serious reality check – budgeting under £90,000 for a two-bedroom property is going to be exceptionally difficult.”
“So I think in terms of budget, we’re definitely going to need some flexibility,” he added.
Spain was once a mecca for cheap property for Britons to escape the rain.
However, housing prices in the country have skyrocketed in recent years, making it much more difficult for expats to settle.
He showed Jennie a handful of properties in the resort town of Estepona, but the flats were much smaller than she expected and she ended up not making a single offer.
Laura explained that many buyers have not realized that the Spanish property market is still trying to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
Spanish house prices recorded their biggest annual increase since the boom period before the global financial crisis.
Prices rose 9% in January from a year earlier, according to a monthly index compiled by Fotocasa, a real estate website. This is the largest increase since September 2006.
Rising house prices have caused buyers to not realize how far their budget will take them.
They are forced to consider purchasing smaller properties in less desirable areas to meet their budget.
But it’s not all bad news: Brits heading to Spain now don’t have to take their liquids out of their bags when going through airport security.
New 3D scanners are expected to launch next year, meaning toiletries and electronic devices can stay in travelers’ luggage, rather than having to be removed and placed on a tray.
Away from house prices, Laura angered fans after posting a cheeky post on social media.
He is currently on tour with This morning in Europe and she took instagram to share his latest adventure in Switzerland.
He posed next to a traditional Swiss horn and wrote: “The horn! And I’ve never seen one so big…”
“I’m being too old and not responding and it’s killing me,” one fan wrote.
Another quipped: “That’s what she said.”
A third added: “I literally peed myself on this photo (laughing emoji).”
